Top 10 tarp setups of 2017

By Ewan

We have been sent some fine examples of tarpology in practice by our customers this year. Whilst 2017 still has some life in it yet, we are sharing ten of our favourites to get you inspired for camping through this winter and beyond. With the endless options provided by our range of tarp sizes, the only thing limiting you is your imagination!

Looking almost like a work of modern art, this set-up features coverage from all sides and above with plenty space inside for all the gear you could need. Bonus points for the sustainable and recyclable support pole! Credit: @bukotsupukotsu / Instagram

2

The growing trend for light and fast bikepacking led to this brilliant creation. No matter what kind of ground is available, a bike and a tarp allows you to stop and get shelter anywhere along your route! Credit: @houseofrides / Instagram

3

The dogs are looking slightly impatient for dinner, but we think that this tarp tent serves up a great place to rest for everyone, in what looks like a superb location. Credit : David Marshall / Facebook

A day's paddling in the sun can be a little hard on the eyes and the skin. Not only does the sun beat down on you from above, but it is also reflected from the water. By packing a tarp, all that's needed to grab some shade is to come ashore and prop it up with your paddles. Credit : @northwestpaddleboards / Instagram

5

This is a simple, low profile option for those travellers who are looking to escape the well-beaten path after a hard day's adventuring. All you need is to crawl under and escape for the night! Credit: @cyrildiabolo / Instagram

9

A couple of fallen branches double as structural poles and handy gear stores in this simple but effective summer shelter. Perfect for keeping your camp snacks away from the ground bugs! Credit: @dd_hammocks_japan / Instagram

6

This is bordering on architectural brilliance! Maximising breathability whilst keeping you protected from any ground moisture, this would be perfect for a summer's evening. Credit: Tony Naylor / Facebook

7

Using tripod frames allows you to customise your campsite and store your gear away off the floor - keeping the inside of your shelter free from any hazards or structural poles, and retaining good tension in your set-up. Credit: @uncle.tito.outdoors / Instagram

8

Adventure sports like cycling require you to be brutal with your weight budget. A SuperLight Tarp packs down super small - when combined with your wheels you have a perfect one-person shelter so you can avoid those soggy starts! Credit: Tom Pryor

Fancy making a tarp shelter, but need your walking poles for...well, walking? Just pitch up under a tree - a sturdy overhanging branch will give plenty of support to your set-up and allow you to carry on your adventure without needing to dismantle anything! Credit: Takahiro Tanifuji

If you have found a unique way to set-up your tarp why not share your knowedge? Send us your photos through our website or Facebook, or tag your photos with #ddhammocks for a chance to be featured on our Instagram page!
