Explorers of the Outdoors: Part 2 - Matt & Zenia
Welcome to the second installment of our blog series: Explorers of the Outdoors.
In this mini-blog series, we will be interviewing outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world - from bushcrafters to bikepackers, kayakers to landscape photographers. The one thing they all have in common? A passion for getting out there and exploring with their DD gear!
For years we have loved to share our customers' photos on Instagram and Facebook, to showcase their DD set-ups in stunning locations across the world. But more than that, we want to learn more about the people behind these set-ups: their motivations, memories, favourite places and sage advice. By doing this, we hope to inspire even more of you to get out and enjoy yourselves in the great outdoors!
This edition, we speak to Matt, a wild-camping YouTuber from the UK, and Zenia who is an outdoor enthusiast & bushcrafter from Denmark.

"Just take the basics and over time you'll figure out what works best for you"
Which is your favourite piece of DD gear and why?
My favourite piece of DD gear has to be my DD SuperLight Tarp. (Pictured above used in conjuction with the DD Frontline Hammock and Underblanket - MC)
This is mainly due to how versatile it is, with its' many tie out points the amount of different tarp configurations are endless. I also really like how lightweight it is, but also still really durable.
Where in the world is your favourite place to camp? What’s good about outdoor spaces in your country?
For me, I'd say the Lake District National Park is my favourite place to camp in the UK. This is mainly because it doesnt matter where you go there, the scenery is always amazing.
What is your happiest memory of being in the outdoors?
My happiest memory has to be when I went out on my first overnight solo wild camp. I had a lot of trepidation about doing it, but I felt like I'd really achieved something and haven't looked back since.
Who do you like to explore the outdoors with, and why? Or do you prefer to camp alone?
This has to be my dog Poppy. Shes a rescue, so to see her out enjoying the great outdoors is pretty special for me.
What’s one piece of camping advice you would give?
Generally, I'd say, start small and dont worry about having loads of expensive gear. Just take the basics and over time you'll figure out what works best for you.

"When I am out there my imagination has no limits and my creativity is endless"
Which is your favourite piece of DD gear and why?
My favorite DD Hammocks product is clearly my DD Tarp 4x4. It is my favorite because I have not yet experienced that it cannot be used for my creative and crazy camp set-ups. As well as this, it is easy to work with and it takes up minimal space in the backpack. That is a win-win in my eyes.
Where in the world is your favourite place to camp? What’s the best thing about outdoor spaces in your country?
My favorite place to camp is in Denmark. We have some incredibly beautiful coniferous forests that I am so in love with. When I am out there my imagination has no limits and my creativity is endless. The good thing about my camp spots is that I have them for myself. They are both for people but also for animals.
What is your happiest memory of being in the outdoors?
My happiest experience of being out in nature was when I got the free feeling inside me. I was free with fresh air in my lungs. And my thoughts were released.
Who do you like to explore the outdoors with, and why? Or do you prefer to camp alone?
Usually, I prefer to camp alone, but sometimes it's nice to have someone with you. I remember the first time I had to sleep outside alone, and it was awful! Over time I have become more comfortable alone, but my boyfriend has been a good support on my trips.
What’s one piece of camping advice you would give?
You must drop all the prejudices you have about what it takes to spend time in nature. Do what YOU want, because YOU want it.
