I'm new to hammock camping. What do I need to get started?
The basic gear you need for hammock camping would be a hammock of your choice and a tarp to protect you from the elements. All our hammocks come pre-fitted with suspension cord (and some with bug nets!) so you have everything you need to get started.Do your hammocks come ready to use, or do they require assembling?
Our hammocks are ready to use! They come fitted with a full suspension kit or webbing, depending on the model. All you would need to add to your set-up is a tarp, and if necessary some insulation. Are DD Hammocks easy to set up?
Very easy – they come fully-assembled and you can tie your hammock to a tree the same way you tie your shoelaces! If you prefer to use more advanced knots, you certainly can – check out our tips on the types of knot you can use to suspend your hammock and tarp.Do I need anything else?
Not necessarily – your hammock and tarp give you a fairly complete set-up on their own but we do have a range of accessories in our shop to make hammock camping even easier. Is hammock camping comfortable?
We - and scores of our customers the world over - find hammocks to be comfier than sleeping on flat ground. This makes sense, given that a hammock 'cradles' you and moves with you as you sleep. For the most comfortable lie, we recommend suspending the foot end of your hammock slightly higher, and sleeping on the diagonal for a flatter lie.Are all your hammocks waterproof?
None of our hammocks offer protection from heavy rain – our Travel Hammock has a waterproof base, but this is really to allow you to camp bivi-style on damp ground. For various reasons we feel enclosing yourself in waterproof material is not a good idea!Is a DD Hammock suitable to use as a 2-person hammock?
No – we do not recommend that 2 people sleep in a DD Hammock, as they are not designed for more than 1 person. Even if your combined weight does not exceed the 125kg limit, the base is not wide and flat enough to keep two people from rolling into the centre (which can be dangerous!)Which hammock is best for someone in the Armed Forces/on a jungle training exercise?
In locations that are very hot or dense with mosquitos, our Frontline Hammock offers the best all-round system as it is minimal, breathable and 100% insect-proof. If you'd prefer a system with removable components, see our Superlight Jungle Hammock.Tarps
Are DD Tarps ready to use or do they require assembling?
Our tarps come ready to use! They all include 4 guy lines and pegs, which allows them to be easily set up in basic configurations.Do DD tarps come with a ridge line?
No - ridge line cord (the best being DD Cord) can be purchased seperately from our store, or you can use any kind of nylon rope/paracord that you might already have. A large number of tarp users already have cord handy, which is why we give the option to add cord to your order if required.Do I need anything else?
As above, our tarps will need additional cord to suspend them between trees, but – since they already come with four pegs and guy lines – anything else is completely optional. DD tarps are very versatile and can be set up in many ways; to get the most out of your tarp, we recommend having an extra set of pegs and guy lines so you can create more advanced configurations (including ground shelters) and take advantage of each tarp's 19 attachment points.
A great extra to have for your tarp is the XL Sleeve – simply pre-fit it over your ridge line when your tarp is in use, and extend over the tarp before de-rigging to make storage even simpler.
